Dear PFSA members,
As you may know, the Florida State Legislature is in its 2023 legislative session as of March 7th and will adjourn May 5th. A legislative session is the period of time in which a legislature is convened for the purpose of lawmaking.
This is a very good time to express your opinion to your representatives, the committees, and the bill sponsors. If your views do not align with a bill, you should contact the people who have been voted to represent you.
We want to bring your attention to the 12 bills as of today that are targeting transgender Floridians. While this is not a comprehensive list of the bills that oppose PFSA values, we believe it is especially important for us to highlight anti-trans legislation. Many of these bills negatively impact other marginalized groups and intersecting identities, such as women, people of color, and children.
Below you will find a summary of these bills. We ask that if these do not align with your values, that you take the time to contact the sponsors of these bills and/or your representative via email or phone. Your message need not be eloquent, abundantly cited, or lengthy.
At its most basic your message can be:
“I am a concerned Floridian. I ask that you vote against or stop any efforts supporting [BILL # & NAME]. This/These bill(s) hurt our community.”
